Rachel Rath - ACTOR

Rachel has worked all over the world on stage and screen. She is currently working between USA and Europe.

She is a member of comedy improv troupe The Craic Pack, Ireland

Theatre credits of note are: the European premiere of Irvine Welsh and Dean Cavanagh's Babylon Heights directed by Graham Cantwell, the lead in the world premiere of Arnold T. Fannings Those Powerful Machines, Joan of Arc in War of the Roses I, II & III directed by fight choreographer Paul Burke (Whiplash! Productions), devised theatre show Traces and Woyzeck directed by Serena Brabazon (Pushing Tin Theatre Company), one-woman show Spoonface Steinberg directed by Simon Hubbard (Cartway Productions) and Doublethink directed by Ant Hampton (Rotozazza).

A selection of screen performances include: TV pilot Mocumentary produced by Kevan Peterson for Bravo USA, Sorcha in TV3 show The Guards, Anton by Graham Cantwell, Nuts the directorial debut short film of Irvine Welsh, Axe Raiders, Darkside of Heaven and Cycle, three features directed by Robbie Moffat, filmed in the United Kingdom, The Actors with Sir Michael Caine directed by Conor McPherson, Laws of Attraction with Pierce Brosnan directed by Peter Howitt.

Working as gaeilge (Irish Language) Rachel performed in Failte go hEirinn directed by Graham Cantwell, Fiorghael directed by Macdara Vallely and played the lead role in Paranoia, the critically acclaimed bi-lingual feature directed by Colin Downey. Film Ireland said "Rachel Rath is mesmerizing in this role...". A Dublin Story, in which Rachel performed, won the Tiernan McBride Award for Best Irish Short at the Galway Film Fleadh 2003, Best Irish Short at the Foyle Film Festival 2003, The Bronze Award for Dramatic Original Short at the Film World Fest Houston 2004 and was short-listed for Academy Award Nomination in 2004.

She has trained in Stanislavski, Meisner, Method as well as physical theatre. She is certified to an advanced level in stage fighting, unarmed, Rapier & Dagger, Broadsword, Sword & Shield and Knife.

Rachel is honoured to have been selected to represent Ireland at the 2008 Berlinale Talent Campus.

Jig, Rachel's debut feature screenplay was nominated for the CineKid Award, Amsterdam (2006). Rachel's latest feature screenplay, Ninja Nina, is currently receiving a lot of attention. The rights Stalker 2.0 and Sins of the Father are under negotiation with a studio

Rachel's first foray into directing Tiny Head Man won bronze at the Fast Fwd Film Festival in Ireland 2006 and she has made a few films since including shorts Hens and Arrivals/Departures for Dublin the Movie: 4 Day Film curated by Lenny Abrahamson and Andrew McAvinchey

Rachel was delighted to act as Event Co-ordinator for the LA Irish Film Festival in 2009. She is looking forward to 2010 and working alongside Lisa McLaughlin on the next one www.lairishfilm.com

She has penned Actors ebooks available here. www.rachelrath.com/ebook/index.htm These ebooks came about because of her move to USA and the need for a practical step by step guide. She is currently penning another New York based ebook.

In 2003 Rachel founded The Attic Studio which is a support network for dedicated film and theatre practitioners. Rachel founded the studio to promote the feeling of community within the theatre and film industries and to facilitate dialogue between artists. The studio has an online database of over 200 Irish based actors, and the online forum has over 1500 active members.

Evolving from The Attic Studio Rachel has teamed up with Kevin Marron to build Actors Centre Ireland, a 5 million euro facility in Parnell Square to service the Irish acting community. They hope to invite members in January 2011.   www.actorscentreireland.com

Rachel served on the Irish Equity Actors Council and Executive Council from 2003 for four years. During her time there she was instrumental in re-vitalizing the working of the office and perception of the union, helped write and compile the Irish Equity Handbook and transferred it to the Irish Equity website. Rachel was their representative at the Cannes Film Festival, Galway Film Festival, Cork Film Festival among others. She was part of decision making on a national level on behalf of the acting fraternity. www.irishequity.ie
